I recently had a chance to use the Shapton 1000 and 4000 Glass Stones have to be some of the best value sharpening stones out there. I have used Norton, Shapton Pro, and some natural water stones. Shapton Glass Stones are similiar to the Shapton Pros They feel very similar but are much cheaper. You can't go wrong with the price for these stones. The only downside is the thickness of these things. They are so thin that if you are used to not using a base or stone holder it starts to get annoying due to the fact that there is less than a half inch of stone. One other side note is despite the fact that they are called Glass Stones and they have a glass side, that is not the side you sharpen on! I made this mistake when I first recieved them. Overall for a home cook or someone looking for an affordable stone that can put a nice edge on their knives these would work great.
